Cure Kids

In an evolving fundraising space, Cure Kids decided to engage a donor recruitment specialist. Our brand and reputation are critical to our cause as New Zealand’s largest charitable funder of child health research. Any external company representing Cure Kids, especially one that will be speaking with our supporters and potential regular givers, needs to have a high level of professionalism and a respectful understanding of our mission.

Community Solutions were a natural fit. Their team was passionate about Cure Kids, communication was always friendly and helpful, and any questions or issues we might have had were addressed immediately.

We have learnt from their fundraising expertise and market knowledge, and appreciate how tailored their processes are. Thanks to Community Solutions, we have a new stream of Cure Kids supporters!

Examples of New Zealand driven Fundraising Success

A Little Can Equal a Lot

These examples and many more highlight the power that many people have when they come together with what they can afford. For some, it might be just a few dollars every month. For others, it could be large one-off donations. Whatever the amount, when purpose, vision and funds come together, greatness can happen.

Even Just a Little Can Do a Lot

It’s easy to think that a donation here and there won’t make a real difference. But when lots of people come together with what they can afford, amazing things can happen.

Working Together for Our Feathered Friends

Sometimes humans can come together for the sake of non-humans. The remote Antipodes Islands are located in the New Zealand sub-Antarctic, about 860 kilometres southeast of Stewart Island. Characterised by a large population of breeding seabirds like albatrosses and penguins, the islands were also home to an estimated 200,000 mice that chomped through 500-1000 kilograms of food every day, depriving native species.

The New Zealand public worked together to raise $250,000 and WWF NZ donated $100,000 towards the project, while The Morgan Foundation matched their donations and brought other key partners together to raise enough money to eradicate the mice. On 21 March 2018, a press release announced that The Million Dollar Mouse project had seen the successful eradication of mice from the Antipodes, enabling native life to thrive on the islands.

The Power of People for People

The power of people can directly impact the lives of other people too. UNICEF ambassadors Gareth and Jo Morgan are supporting a project that will provide clean running water to thousands of children and their families in Tanzania. It’s a massive project that, when finished, will reverse the dangers of inadequate and unsafe water, poor sanitation and improper hygiene practices. The project requires a lot of ongoing financial support and thousands of New Zealanders have donated to the cause.

In 2012 the Morgans returned to Tanzania with UNICEF NZ to view the progress of the project and report back to the Kiwis who had generously donated to the project. Without all of those donations, these Tanzanian families would still be walking long distances every day to collect unclean and unsafe water.

Pledging Support for a Local Cause

Closer to home, in early 2016 39,249 New Zealanders together pledged more than $2 million via Givealittle to buy a beachfront property in the Abel Tasman National Park. The private property was put up for sale and the public pooled their funds (along with a top-up from the government) to prevent the sale of the land to offshore buyers and ensure the public could have access to some of the most stunning coastline in the country.
